Intentional and inclusive describes the approach taken by the Racial Diversity, Opportunities and Harmony Strategic Alliance. Being intentional, the Alliance wants diversity represented in neighborhoods, civic organizations and businesses throughout south-central Kansas. And, striving for inclusion, the Alliance is trying to understand the region's perception about race and diversity.
As part of Visioneering Wichita’s Quality of Life Foundation, the Alliance works to fulfill the Foundation's vision to be a healthy, safe community that has a vibrant recreation, entertainment and arts focus that embraces diversity and builds pride.
As a first step, the Alliance is developing and implementing a survey that measures attitudes and perceptions about diversity, opportunity and harmony in social interactions, jobs, education, health care and leadership. In addition, the Alliance wants to ensure diversity is integrated throughout the Visioneering Wichita process including all alliances working to improve the region's future.
The Alliance will measure its progress using survey results, as well as progress toward closing the income gap for minority groups.
